Bettership Beta Terms of Service

Effective date: August 30, 2026

Last updated: August 30, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Bettership. They cover what you can expect from us, what we expect from you, and how we handle the harder questions: recordings, the content you bring in, payment, and what happens if something goes wrong. We’ve written them in plain English. Where a section carries real legal weight, we’ve kept it plain anyway, because you should be able to read your own agreement. If anything here is unclear, email us before you agree.

By creating an account or using Bettership, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the product.

1. Who we are

Bettership is a product operated by Scoutio LLC. Scoutio LLC is a California limited liability company. “Bettership” is the fictitious business name (DBA) under which Scoutio LLC operates this product. In these terms, “we,” “us,” and “Bettership” all mean Scoutio LLC. “You” means the person who creates an account and uses the product.

You can reach us at support@bettership.ai for anything, or legal@bettership.ai for legal notices.

2. Who can use Bettership

Bettership is for adult learners (18 and older) in the United States. People outside the US are welcome, with the caveats in our privacy policy. By using the product, you confirm you’re at least 18 and that you can form a binding contract.

Bettership is built for individual learners. These terms cover learner use only. Separate terms for instructors and organizations are not part of this agreement and will be offered later.

3. Your account

You’re responsible for your account and what happens under it. Keep your login credentials secure, and tell us promptly if you think someone else has access. You’re responsible for activity under your account except to the extent it results from our own failure. One account is for one person; don’t share it.

4. What Bettership is (and that it’s in beta)

Bettership is a personal workspace for learning and practice. It helps you capture sources, recall and connect what you’ve learned, plan and reflect with Coach, and turn what you’ve learned into things you make. Some features rely on AI.

Bettership is a beta product. It’s under active development. Features may change, break, or be removed, and we may set or change limits on use. We’ll try to give notice of material changes, but we don’t promise the product will always be available or work without errors. See Section 12 for the formal disclaimers.

5. Access, fees, and usage limits

Your access may be free or paid. Your invitation or the offer you accept will describe any applicable fees, access period, and usage limits. Free access does not guarantee that access will remain free indefinitely.

If we change or end a free offering, we will give you advance notice and explain your options. We will honor any specific free-access period we have promised you. We will not automatically convert free access into a paid subscription. Before you subscribe, we will show you the price, billing frequency, renewal terms, and cancellation and refund policies, and ask for your agreement.

We may limit access, features, storage, or AI usage during the beta. We will explain applicable limits in the product or your invitation and notify you before making material changes to your access.

6. Acceptable use

Use Bettership for your own learning and practice. Don’t use it to break the law or harm others. Specifically, you agree not to:

  • Use the product for anything illegal, or to infringe anyone’s intellectual property, privacy, or other rights.

  • Upload or ingest content you don’t have the right to use (see Section 8).

  • Record people in ways that break the recording or consent laws that apply to you (see Section 7).

  • Try to break, probe, overload, or reverse-engineer the product, or get around its security, credit, or usage limits.

  • Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the product or another person’s data through it.

  • Use the product to build a competing product, or to scrape or extract data at scale.

  • Misuse the AI features to generate unlawful, harmful, or deceptive content.

If you break these rules, we may suspend or close your account (see Section 15).

7. Recording sessions and consent

When you record a session, you’re responsible for the recording and for telling the other people in it. A lot of what Bettership helps with happens in meetings, and recording one captures other people’s words too. That’s part of how the product is useful, and it’s also your responsibility.

Recording laws vary by state and country. Some places require everyone in a conversation to agree to a recording; some require only one person (you). You decide what to record and who to inform, and you’re responsible for following the laws that apply to you. When you start a recording, Bettership shows a brief, non-blocking reminder so the moment doesn’t slip past, but we don’t enforce a particular way of asking, and the reminder is not legal advice. If a participant asks you to delete a recording, you can delete any session yourself at any time.

8. Content you bring in

When you bring content into Bettership, you are responsible for having the right to use it that way. Videos, articles, audio, documents, and other resources may be protected by copyright or subject to terms set by their owners. Using something for personal learning does not, by itself, give you permission to copy, upload, record, or process it. Only bring in material you own, have permission to use, or may lawfully use for that purpose.

If you believe material in Bettership infringes your copyright, email legal@bettership.ai. Please include:

  • Your name, address, telephone number, and email address.

  • A description of the copyrighted work and the material you believe infringes it, with enough detail for us to locate that material.

  • A statement that you believe in good faith that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.

  • A statement that the information you provided is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner of the right involved.

  • Your physical or electronic signature.

We will review reports and may remove material or restrict access as appropriate. If your material is removed and you believe that was a mistake, contact legal@bettership.ai so we can review it. We may suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly infringe others’ rights in appropriate circumstances.

9. Your content, and the permission we need to run the product

You retain any rights you hold in the content you bring in and the notes you create. Third-party content remains owned by its rights holders. You give us limited permission to use your content only to operate Bettership for you. To run the product, we need permission to store, process, copy, and display your content, and to send it to the providers listed in our privacy policy (for example, to transcribe audio or generate a Coach response). This permission exists only to provide and improve the product for you. It’s not a transfer of ownership, and it doesn’t let us sell your content or use it for advertising. We don’t train third-party AI models on your content without your opt-in. The permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that persist briefly in backups or where law requires retention (see the privacy policy).

Improving quality. Bettership uses automated checks to evaluate and improve the features you use. Before a person reviews your resources, or the summaries and extracted details created from them, for quality improvement, we ask for your explicit permission and explain what they will review. Taking part is optional.

10. Your knowledge base and export

The knowledge base Bettership builds for you is yours to keep for personal use. You can export it. The export is licensed to you for personal use: yours to keep and use for your own learning and work. It is not owned outright in the sense of a license to redistribute, resell, or relicense it, and it doesn’t include any rights to Bettership’s own software, models, or systems. Within those bounds, what you’ve captured and built is yours, and it’s designed to be useful even outside the product.

11. The AI features and their limits

Bettership’s other AI features help you learn, practice, and create things. They can be wrong, and they’re not a substitute for professional advice. AI outputs can be inaccurate, incomplete, or not right for your situation. Use your own judgment, especially for anything important. Bettership doesn’t provide legal, financial, medical, or other professional advice, and nothing the Bettership agents say is that kind of advice. You’re responsible for what you do with the AI’s output.

12. Beta disclaimers and warranties

Bettership is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Scoutio LLC disclaims express and implied warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Bettership is still in development. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, free of security vulnerabilities, or suitable for every purpose. Features may change or become unavailable, and data may be lost. AI outputs may be inaccurate or incomplete. Keep separate copies of anything important and use your own judgment when relying on the product or its outputs.

Nothing in these terms excludes any warranty, guarantee, remedy, or other right that applicable law does not allow us to exclude.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Scoutio LLC’s liability arising out of or relating to Bettership or these terms is limited. Scoutio LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, or for loss of data or goodwill, even if advised that such damages were possible.

Scoutio LLC’s total liability for all claims arising out of or relating to Bettership or these terms will not exceed the greater of $100 or the amount you paid Scoutio LLC for Bettership during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

These exclusions and limits do not apply to fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Your rights under applicable consumer-protection laws remain unchanged.

14. Responsibility for third-party claims

You are responsible for third-party claims caused by your unlawful use of Bettership or your material breach of these terms. To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to reimburse Scoutio LLC for reasonable costs, damages, and legal fees that it is legally required to pay as a result of such claims, including claims that material you supplied infringes another person’s rights or that a recording you made violated applicable law.

This obligation does not apply to the extent a claim results from Scoutio LLC’s own breach of these terms, negligence, or misconduct. We will promptly notify you of a claim for which we seek reimbursement and give you a reasonable opportunity to participate in its defense. We will not agree to a settlement that requires you to pay money, admit wrongdoing, or take action without your written consent.

15. Suspension and termination

You can stop anytime. We can suspend or close accounts that break these terms. You can delete your account at any time; deletion is handled as described in the privacy policy. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if we’re required to by law, or if we stop offering the product. If we close your account for something other than a breach by you, we’ll give reasonable notice and a chance to export your data. Sections that should survive termination (ownership, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnification, governing law) continue to apply.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product evolves. The “Last updated” date reflects the most recent version. For material changes, we’ll notify you (for example, by email or in the app) before they take effect. If you keep using Bettership after a change takes effect, that’s your acceptance of the updated terms.

17. Governing law and disputes

California law governs these terms, except where applicable law requires otherwise. This choice does not take away any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live.

If you have a concern, you can contact legal@bettership.ai and we will try to resolve it with you. Contacting us first is encouraged, but it is not a condition of bringing a claim and does not extend any legal deadline.

These terms do not require binding arbitration or waive your right to participate in a class action. Either party may bring a claim in a court that has jurisdiction under applicable law, including small-claims court when available.

18. Other terms

  • Entire agreement. These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the product.

  • Severability. If part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.

  • No waiver. If we don’t enforce a right once, that’s not a waiver of it.

  • Assignment. You can’t assign these terms without our consent; we may assign them to a successor (for example, in an acquisition), as described in the privacy policy’s business-transfer section.
