Security at Bettership

Bettership holds your resources, captures, notes, and conversations. Here is how we protect them, with the details in our privacy policy.

Encryption

Connections use TLS, and our cloud database encrypts stored data. Recordings on your computer rely on its own protection. The desktop app keeps them seven days so a failed transcription can be recovered, then tries to delete them.

Watching a window

Watch window saves images when a window you choose changes, and an indicator names it. Frames are chosen and read on your computer, then uploaded to your private workspace when you finish. Text read from them can reach AI services. Frames from paid content stay private.

Who handles your data

Outside services store your workspace, run sign-in, transcribe audio, and answer AI requests. They can receive your messages, resource text, images, learning context, and capture transcripts, including other people’s words. Transcription audio can come from a video you added from a private or signed-in page. Some AI requests pass through a routing service to the model’s host, and web searches can use words from your conversations.

Analytics services receive identifiers, activity, errors, and notice of crashes. Crash files stay on your computer, and in-app replay is off. AI diagnostic records can include content and are kept for 60 days. Email services deliver account messages.

A payment service runs checkout. Bettership never receives your full card number.

YouTube, Vimeo, and Loom players connect directly to those providers when opened. They get connection details and viewing activity, but nothing from your Bettership account.

We don’t sell your data or share it for advertising.

AI tools you connect

Connectors are built but not yet available. When they are, you’ll approve Library and Maker-item access separately. Each read checks your permission and never includes your profile or chats. Disconnecting stops new reads, but a tool keeps what it already received.

Access and credentials

The browser extension reads the page you’re viewing on your computer while its side panel is open. It sends Bettership only an address you ask to preview or what you choose to add. Its sign-in stays in the extension.

For a video behind a website sign-in, the extension passes that site’s cookies to the desktop app over a local connection once both confirm your account. The cookies go only back to the sites they came from, never to Bettership’s servers.

Service credentials stay on our servers. At Scoutio LLC, only people who need learner data to run Bettership can reach it.

Deleting your data

You can delete a capture or your account. Account deletion finishes within 30 days, except records the law requires.

Where we’re honest about being early

Bettership is in beta and doesn’t yet hold SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification. We build on certified services and plan to pursue our own. If a security incident affects your personal data, we’ll notify you and the relevant regulators as the law requires.
